WACA student gets national recognition for her artwork

Jessica Camarena poses with her artwork, which is mostly prison-themed because of her childhood watching her father get incarcerated and then deported. Her mixed media piece “Oregon’s 37 Death Row Inmates” has received Best in Grade and a Gold Medal from the National Scholastic Art Awards.
Ana “Jessica” Camarena has seen more than her fair share of hardships in just 18 years, having experienced troubles from homelessness to the incarceration of her father.
