The Oktoberfest monument is done by local resident Philis Schmidt. It is made from Mid-Willamette Valley-grown products and the artwork of the older dancers is of an actual couple, Louis Ettlin and Mary Reichmuth, who have been attending for 15 years.
MOUNT ANGEL — Every year, Philis Schmidt takes on the
monumental task of adorning and revamping Oktoberfest’s “Die Fruchtsaule,” or
the harvest monument, a centerpiece of the four-day festival in Mount Angel.
