After librarian Mary Parra shared news of an American school in Tunisia being burned down, Nellie Muir Elementary School students set to work to start a coin drive. Ingrid Vega, a fourth-grader, holds one of the collection cans in front of maps of the United States and Africa. Nellie Muir collected a total of $184 in 10 days. The money will be sent to the librarian at the school in Tunisia, who will then use to it to purchase library books to replace the ones destroyed by the fire.
WOODBURN — Students at Nellie Muir Elementary School have taken a negative situation and turned it into a learning experience.
