Overcoming obstacles: Palafox chose the right path

Michelle Palafox (back), a senior at Success High School in Woodburn, turned to gangs and drugs as a way of coping with her mom’s death. By leaving that life behind, she hopes to inspire her younger sister, Jenifer, 11, not to make the same mistakes.
Michelle Palafox will never forget the day her mother died. “On Saturday, we’re together; the next day, the cops are at our door,” she remembered.
