Overcoming obstacles: Catching a new perspective on life

Gervais High School senior Mac Martin has a heart condition called atrial fibrillation, which means his heart doesn’t beat in regular rhythm. The condition will disqualify Martin from serving in the military, which has been a lifelong dream. But he will have a procedure on June 13 that he hopes will cure his condition and keep that dream alive.
When life threw Mac Martin a curveball, the Gervais senior decided not to just watch it go by. Last summer, Mac was a healthy, 17-year-old student-athlete, working for Service Master cleaning schools when he noticed he was having issues breathing.
