Aaron Franson, 23, who is housed at MacLaren Youth Correctional Facility, hugs his dad, Ron, after receiving his bachelor’s degree in business administration from Eastern Oregon University. Franson was the only youth to receive a bachelor’s degree in a graduation ceremony on Friday at MacLaren, which also saw 26 youths graduate from Lord High School. The ceremony also honored four youths who received associate degrees, two who received career certificates, two who earned barbering licenses and three who graduated from the barbering program.
Friday was evidence that incarcerated youths can change for the better, with many young men at MacLaren Youth Correctional Facility in Woodburn receiving their diplomas.
