Acreage in hop production decreasing as mega-brewers eye extracts

Blake Crosby shows off some of the hops grown at his family’s farm, which is just west of Woodburn. These 200 pound bales are on their way to the 10 Barrel Brewing Co. in Bend, and Crosby said his business is targeting more craft breweries since Anheuser-Busch has been cutting back on its purchase of Oregon hops. It takes about one pound of hops to produce one barrel of beer.
With all the challenges and uncertainties in the field of agriculture, being a farmer has never been easy.
