Woodburn City Council considers allowing downtown murals

This colorful mural in the lobby of the Academy of International Studies building at Woodburn High School was created by Hector Hernandez in 2007. Hernandez, who lives in Portland, has stepped forward as one of the proponents of allowing murals within the city of Woodburn. The Woodburn City Council is considering what possible legal constraints need to be resolved before voting on whether to give a green light to the concept.
Is Woodburn poised to join the “mural revolution” in Oregon? With many communities around the state transforming the sides of drab buildings into artwork that honors the heritage of a community or just presents something more interesting than a blank wall, Woodburn is looking at following a similar path.
