Local lawmakers introduce bill to help rural fire districts

Better location would give quicker response times for emergency workers

Aurora Fire Chief Rod Yoder said fire districts like his are handcuffed by current Oregon land use laws. Local lawmakers agree and have introduced a bill that would allow land designated as exclusive farm use to be subdivided for fire districts.
SALEM — From 26-motorcycle pileups on Interstate 5 to single-vehicle rollovers along Highway 551, the Aurora Rural Fire District has a third of its calls along the area’s highways and interstates.
