MT. ANGEL — Two people were found dead Monday afternoon near Mt. Angel in a vehicle that apparently fell into the Pudding River.

According to the Marion County Sheriff’s Office, a dive team began searching the car around 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The vehicle was discovered damaged and completely submerged underwater.

Authorities said it appeared the car left the road near the 11200 block of Mt. Angel-Gervais Road.

Police said the car was a two-door 1990 Honda Civic and witnesses estimated the car was traveling over 100 mph when it hit a tree before going into the water.

Luke Christopher Jackson, 21, of Forest Grove, was driving the vehicle and and Tyler Ray Libel, 20, of Woodburn was the passenger in the vehicle. Both were wearing their seat belts.

It is unclear whether the cause of death was from the impact with the tree or from drowning.
