Recently the community heard about the news that five individuals were selected as 2010 Distinguished Service Award winners.
The DSA banquet, which will be March 19 at Wellspring, is the premier social event in Woodburn and is sold out each year. It is Woodburn’s signature evening and this year’s winners continue that tradition.
The five selected represent the best of the best in the Woodburn area. Each brings their own unique skill set to Hubbard and Woodburn and each has done amazing things for their community.
Whether it is building parks for the community, helping a town heal after tragedy, making sure families in need have food or just being great examples of citizens involved in anything from city council to art centers and city committees, these winners exemplify volunteerism at its finest.
Community pride means something different to many people and while these winners’ efforts are being highlighted right now, many continue to plug along, volunteering in their communities without notice. The DSA committee probably could have given out dozens of these awards, because that’s the kind of community we live and work in.
Woodburn Proud is in our blood, now. Everyone has been touched by this slogan, in one way or another. Whether it’s high school sports, cleaning up our streets or volunteering for different projects, the Woodburn community deserves its very own DSA award.
Thank you to each of the five winners for your commitment to this area, their commitment to making this a better place to be. And thank you to all of you volunteers who also help make this area better. You know who you are.
