NMSD workers may get some days back

AURORA — North Marion School District employees took a toll last year with budget cuts, but the district wants them to know they are valued.

After a number of executive board meetings, the school board decided to find a way to return some of the cut paid days back to employees.

If the school district has a certain amount of money by June 20, staff will be given back three or four days, depending on the amount.

The State for State School Fund and American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) State Stabilization Fund  (SSF) awards money to the district each year, based on student enrollment, membership, economic forecasts, income from Measures 66 and 67 and other legislative decisions.
<br /> In a special meeting, the board voted to approve the funding clause that if the SSF and ARRA funds totaled between $23.7 and $24 million as of June 20, three days will be returned to the employees.

If it’s greater than $24 million, four days will be given back.

“We really value the employees,” said Superintendent Linda Reeves. “They stepped up last spring and made sacrifices in the number of workdays this year so we could balance the budget and we could save some money.”

Payment would be made by June 30.
