Raffle to benefit Hubbard parks

HUBBARD — The Hubbard Parks Improvement Committee (HPIC) has launched a parks fundraiser that will raffle off tickets for a special dinner thrown by the Hubbard Fire Department.
The tickets will be on sale during Hubbard Hopfest. According to Chief Joseph Dryden, the winner can choose if they want an event geared toward adults or children.
“It’s whichever way they want to have it,” he said. “The firemen will cook the meal. If it’s a birthday party they can have it at the fire station. They can have fire truck rides. We’ll get them birthday cakes and hats and balloons or whatever.
“Or, it can be an adult meal (with) steaks and wine and an evening soiree.”
All of the money from t
he raffle will go to HPIC and the fire department will pay for the meal with funds raised by Hopfest.
“We’re really trying to focus the Hop Festival more the last few years on children,” Dryden said. “Bringing in the magicians and this year we’re having face painters and clowns and the jumpy toys for the kids.”
The meal will be for 10 to 12 people of the winner’s choosing. The chief pointed to the importance of parks to the community’s children.
“Our children are our future,” he said. “The parks committee has been changing the outlook of the parks and the playground equipment in the past few years …(Just) look at the eyes of the children that get that playground equipment and use it consistently every day.
“You look for positive things to give children to do with their time or they will find something un-positive,” he said.
