WOODBURN — A Woodburn graduate has won a scholarship through the city’s Youth Advisory Board (YAB).

Eric Mora (pictured right), who just graduated from the Woodburn Academy of Art, Science and Technology (WAAST), was selected by a committee of peers as an outstanding senior.

Stu Spence, Woodburn’s recreation services manager, said Mora is an exceptional young man.

“I think Eric has amazing potential,” said Spence. “He is an artist.

“He’s super creative, dedicated and was a key member of that group.”

YAB created the scholarship fund last fall. Since then, the group has raised just over $200 through things like collecting cans and other fundraisers, all of which will go to Mora.

The group is made up of mostly high school students whose mission is to “make a positive difference for teens,” according to Spence. It is run by the Woodburn Recreation and Parks Department and regularly does service projects and other community outreach.
