WOODBURN -- Since 1954, the French Prairie Kiwanis Club has been serving breakfast to the citizens of Woodburn. Each year, at Legion Park, dozens of Kiwanians get up before the crack of dawn, fire up the grills and start cooking pancakes, eggs and ham.
This year was no different and, although a bit chilly in the morning, the sun was out and the parking lot was jam-packed with cars, police cars and fire trucks.
In addition to the food, coffee, milk and juice provided, a local Cub Scout troop helped with clean-up and coffee refills.
This year, 464 tickets were sold and, according to Deb Yager, one of the many volunteers who helped organize the event,

about another 50 were given away. But, she said, when the Fourth of July falls on Sundays, it makes it difficult.
"Sundays are always a challenge," she said. "It's a tough day to host the breakfast because a lot of people were out late the night before at the (St. Paul) Rodeo, and it's during the time when most church services are going on."
This event is French Prairie's biggest fundraiser of the year.
