Lady Cats pick up pair of wins

GERVAIS — The Gervais girls basketball team earned its first West Valley League win of the season last Tuesday, defeating Amity, 46-43.

The Lady Cats were led by 14 points by Jessie Rush and 12 from Riley Rush, and overcame a four-point deficit heading into the fourth quarter to grab the victory.

Gervais trailed 30-26 after the third quarter, but outscored the visiting Warriors, 20-13, in the final period.
Rounding out the team’s scoring were Mary Dewar, with seven points, Vanessa Villegas and Jessica Trevino, with four points apiece, Charlotte LaFollette with three, and Amy Stott with two.

Jessie Rush led the team with 13 rebounds, followed by nine from Dewar.

On Friday, the Lady Cats defeated Colton, 40-29, at Colton High School to improve their record to 5-8 overall (2-3 in league).
