Relay team breaks another school record

Jacob Bonham was part of the 200 medley relay team that broke the school record with a time of 1 minute, 48.59 seconds, nearly two seconds faster than the previous record.
WOODBURN — Another swim meet, another record falls for Woodburn.
 
The 200-yard medley relay team of Kyle Wicks, Jacob Bonham, Bogdan Shevchuk and Rich Prewitt broke the Woodburn school record by nearly two full seconds, with a time of 1 minute, 48.59 seconds on Thursday at the Woodburn Aquatic Center.
 
The 200 medley relay was one of five events the Woodburn boys won against perennial swimming powerhouse Corvallis on Thursday, as the Spartans won the meet, 105-51.
 
Also winning individual events for the Bulldogs were Wicks, who placed first in the 50 free (23 seconds) and the 100 breaststroke (1:03.76), and Shevchuk, who placed first in the 100 free (52.07) and the 200 individual medley (2:16.71).
 
Other highlights for the Woodburn boys included runners-up for Prewitt (100 backstroke), Bonham (500 free) and Louie Andrade (100 butterfly). Prewitt also placed third in the 500 free, while Bonham was fourth in the 200 free and Louie Andrade, who achieved personal records in both of his individual events, was fourth in the 50 free.
 
The loss to Corvallis comes on the heels of a team win for Woodburn over Blanchet Catholic on Tuesday, where the Bulldogs earned a 72-71 victory.
 
On the girls side, Woodburn lost to Corvallis, 124-32, with Minerva Mexicano winning the lone events for the Bulldogs. Mexicano won the 100 butterfly, with a personal record time of 1:12.08, and also placed first in the 500 free (6:11.87).
 
Lupita Andrade was the lone girl to be a runner-up, placing second in the 100 backstroke, and also taking third in the 200 individual medley, with lifetime personal records in both events.
 
Also earning points for Woodburn were Elizabeth Duncan, who took third in the 50 free, and Malia Berry, who took fourth in the 100 free.
 
Mexicano also won the 100 butterfly and 500 free on Tuesday against Blanchet, and Lupita Andrade won the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:23.83.
 
Woodburn also won the girls 200 medley relay against Blanchet, and placed second in the 400 free relay against Corvallis.
 
The Bulldogs’ next swim meet will be on Tuesday, in a road meet against Lebanon.
