Interviews for new WSD boss to be held Feb. 18-20

WOODBURN — Only four of 16 applicants for the superintendent position in Woodburn School District are from Oregon.

The rest of the applicants are from out of state.

The application deadline was Jan. 27, followed by a screening process this week by a selected committee.

The committee includes community and school members as well as the school board.

In an instructional meeting with Oregon School Boards Association’s Chuck Bugge Tuesday, the group learned how to access the applications online and screen them using guidelines set by the school board.

The initial screening process ended Thursday, with each committee member listing their  preferences based on the applications.

The next step is a Feb. 9 executive session with the board and screening committee to look at the screening results and select candidates for initial interviews.

“There is no set number of initial interviews, but generally school boards select from five to seven candidates,” Bugge said.

Those interviews are scheduled for Feb. 18-20.

“Following initial interviews, the candidate pool will be narrowed to a group of finalists,” Bugge said.

Until then, the applicants’ names remain confidential, he added.
