WOODBURN — The North Marion boys swim team swept every event en route to a three-way meet victory last Tuesday at the Woodburn Aquatic Center.
The Huskies scored 144 points, while Blanchet was second (76) and Cascade was third (65).

Ricardo Verastegui earned a personal best in the 100-yard fly at 1 minute, 39 seconds, Dylan Christensen earned a personal best in the 200 IM, and Darren Wells had a personal best in the 100 free by more than 1.5 seconds.

North Marion was helped by its depth and having 20 swimmers on the roster, while Blanchet and Cascade had 10 swimmers each.

On the girls side, the Huskies finished third with 60 points. Cascade won on its depth with 126 points, and Blanchet scored 107.

Hailey Garinger won the 100 back, and Alyse Armstrong won the 100 breast.
“This was a great opportunity for us to be able to compete against (Blanchet) before the district meet,” coach Chere Moore said.

“They have 20-plus girls and enjoy the depth of numbers that I do on the boys side. There were a couple of good races and I know the girls will be looking for them at districts.”

Runner-up finishes went to Armstrong in the 200 IM, Elisabeth Culton in the 500 free, and the medley relay of Garinger, Armstrong, Culton and Salazar.

On Friday, Jan. 22, North Marion swept a four-way meet with Gladstone, Rainier and Valley Catholic.

On the boys side, the Huskies defeated Gladstone, 110-54; beat Rainier, 105-64; and took down Valley Catholic, 97-63.

On the girls side, North Marion defeated Gladstone, 73-70; beat Rainier, 78-64; and beat Valley Catholic, 73-63.
