Start here, governor
To the editor:
In a front page article in the
Statesman Journal
, dated Jan. 28, the governor said the following: “If you want to position Oregon for long-term success and economic stability, we must put our differences aside and come together to build a future for our citizens and our business.”
As governor, you and the Democratic-controlled legislature can start by leaving the kicker alone and cutting government growth, lowering business taxes and regulations.
In addition, state taxes need to be lowered for the working, not push legislation that increases all the above.
Then and only the
n will you see economic growth and lower unemployment figures.
Enough said.

Reader not impressed with recent police raids
After listening to the news and reading the paper concerning the raids on homes in Woodburn, I am appalled. Fifty cops involved and just four arrested — one a woman with two small children. And I read nothing about the pounds, ounces or even grams of drugs found. I have witnessed such raids in the past.
Most of these homes are rentals belonging to innocent landlords.
Police show up early in the morning, while most people are asleep.
They don’t knock and serve a warrant. They knock down doors, break windows and, without any regard for the cost of clean-up and repairs, destroy the home. Then there’s the children sleeping when all hell breaks loose. Can you imagine?
Why would it take 50 of our finest to arrest four? Have you heard about our economy? Would it not cost less to just call the Army and Air Force in? A tank could blow the roof off and the Air Force could then drop paratroopers in.
I, for one, am not impressed or surprised by the gangs in uniform.
T. Charmaine Warden
Aurora
Editor’s note:
Canby, not Woodburn police, led this particular raid.
