Cutsforth
Norma J. Cutsforth, 86, of Gervais, died Jan. 29, 2010. She was born Aug. 15, 1923 in Portland.
She was the owner of the Gervais Food Market.
She is survived by her daughter Tina Ridings, of West Salem; son Lanny Cutsforth of Gold Beach; six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
A funeral service was held Feb. 1 at Cornwell Colonial Chapel in Woodburn. Interment was at the Gervais Masonic Cemetery in Gervais.
Yokers
Virginia Margaret Yokers, 94, of Woodburn, died Jan. 27, 2010. She was born June 5, 1915 to Anton L. and Clara L. Anschuetz in East Tawas, Mich.
She received her elementary and high school education in East Tawas, graduating in 1932, and then attended a year of County Normal School — in the same building.
She graduated from Michigan State College in 1937 with a bachelor’s degree in English. While in college, she played first chair trumpet.
She taught at Kearsley School in Flint, Mich. for a year and a half.
While in college, she met Floyd Lutz Yokers, who was a pastor at Immanuel Lutheran in Grand Ledge, Mich. They were married June 14, 1938 and had six sons: David, Phillip, Paul, Mark, Timothy and Jonathan.
They served God in Lutheran parishes in Folwerville and Saginaw, Mich., American Falls, Idaho and Ritzville, Chinook and Naselle, Wash.
The couple retired and moved to Senior Estates in Woodburn in 1974. They were active in Immanuel Lutheran Church. She enjoyed women’s Bible study, fishing, canning, cooking and caring for her large, active family.
She moved to Des Moines, Wash. in 1998 to be closer to family. She enjoyed attending Grace Lutheran and the friends she met at Wesley Terrace.
She is survived by her six sons; brother Norman Anschuetz, of East Tawas; 19 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1979.
A funeral service will be held Feb. 7 at 2 p.m. at the Wesley Home in Des Moines. Interment was at Wilhelm’s Portland Memorial Funeral Home and Mausoleum on Jan. 29, next to her husband.
