Drive a few miles north of Woodburn and there are some pretty cool things happening in the city of Hubbard. The Hubbard Parks Improvement Committee (HPIC), headed by Linda Kleczynski, recently finished its second city park renovation, Walnut Vale Court Park.
Kari Lane Park was already revamped and the group hopes to rebuild Winchester Park next year.
HPIC uses grants and donations — of time and money — to complete the projects. What a great way to bring a community together. Kleczynski and her group does this because they want Hubbard to be a better place to live. They are not looking for publicity or a pat on the back, they just go about doing their work and children all over Hubbard are enjoying the fruits of that labor.
Not only is this group making Hubbard a better place, new city councilor Tyler Smith has been leading the charge to get Hubbard a Neighborhood Watch program. The program is still in the developing stages, but the Hubbard Police Department is on board and City Hall appears to be ready to support it as well, whether that be through direct involvement or not.
It is amazing what just a few people in a town can do to energize it and make it a better, safer place to live. These are just two examples of how individuals can make a difference in their community. Kudos to Tyler Smith and Linda Kleczynski, and the many volunteers who helped build Vale Park. Thank you for your efforts.
