Second annual Shalom Prayer Center Christmas open house

The festivities will run from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The Benedictine Sisters will be selling their famous morning coffee cakes as well as the eight flavors of Monastery Mustard. She now is a teacher of carving at the Heritage Art Studio in North Plains. She has done caricature carvings, realistic faces, and folk art Santas and animals. Some of the Santa carvings will be for sale.
Another guest artist will be David Phillips of Gentle Spirit Music Productions of Eugene, who will be playing advent and Christmas music from his “Prepare the Way of the Lord” and “Christmas Dreams.”
Holiday refreshments, including free samples of Monastery Mustard, will be served. For more information, contact Sister Dorothy Jean Beyer, director of Shalom Prayer Center, at 503 845-6773 or shalom@mtangel.net.

Shalom Prayer Center, a ministry of the Benedictine Sisters, is offering the annual Thomas Merton Retreat with award-winning filmmaker and author Morgan Atkinson Dec. 11-12.
This retreat will feature the documentary “Soul Searching: The Journey of Thomas Merton” as a lens through which to examine the path and legacy of the 20th century spiritual master. The retreat begins Dec. 11 at 7 p.m. and concludes Dec. 12 at 3:30 p.m. The registration fee is $114, which includes overnight lodging on Friday, as well as breakfast and lunch on Saturday. The registration deadline is Dec. 9.
There will also be an hour-long presentation by Atkinson on Dec. 13 from 1 to 2 p.m. at Queen of Angels Monastery. The cost for the presentation is $5, which may be paid at the door. Preregistration for the Sunday presentation is not necessary.
