WOODBURN — The city of Woodburn is considering opening Fifth Street to through traffic between Highway 214 and Harrison Street. Residents are invited to attend one of three public open houses Nov. 18, 19 and 23 to learn about the Fifth Street improvement project and share their thoughts and ideas.
The meetings are being held at the following times and locations:
* Nov. 18 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Woodburn Seventh-day Adventist Church, 1100 Sixth St. in Woodburn;
* Nov. 19 from 6 to 8 p.m. at St. Luke Catholic Church, 417 Harrison St. in Woodburn;
* Nov. 23 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Nuevo Amanecer, 1274 Fifth St. in Woodburn.
All residents are encouraged to attend and work with the
Woodburn public works staff to design a project that relieves congestion and works for all of Woodburn.
The city has hired Murray, Smith and Associates Inc. to provide design and engineering assistance. The city also actively seeks volunteers from throughout the community to join a citizen advisory committee (CAC). Advisory committee members will work with city staff and the consultants to design a project for city council consideration. Applications will be available at the open house or can be obtained by contacting the Woodburn Public Works Department. The deadline for applications is prior to the end of November.
The Woodburn City Council will make a decision about the project after staff incorporates public input with the CAC to create a workable design. That deliberation would likely occur at a public hearing early next spring.
