A Woodburn structure fire Saturday claimed part of a shop and its contents, causing about $150,000 in damage.

At 3:30 p.m. Saturday, the Woodburn Fire District responded to a shop fire at 13517 Portland Road N.E. The first arriving engine reported heavy smoke coming from the south portion of the shop.

The crew made an initial attack at the midpoint of the building to stop the fire’s progress, but the south portion of the building sustained heavy fire and heat damage. The rest of the building had moderate smoke damage.

The fire-damaged area contained ATVs, mowers, exercise equipment and more. The estimated damage to the structure and its contents was $150,000.

The fire is thought to have originated from an ATV used earlier in the day to pick up leaves, a WFD press release said. Debris may have come in contact with the ATV’s hot engine or exhaust.

WFD responded with two engines, a ladder, three water tenders and an air support unit.
