About 40 pounds of marijuana -- worth about $100,000 -- was removed from the car La Vongpanya was driving.
A man was arrested on Interstate 5 north of Brooks Wednesday morning when a traffic stop revealed approximately 40 pounds of marijuana in the car he was driving.

At about 2:40 a.m. Wednesday, an Oregon State Police trooper stopped a rented 2008 Nissan Altima with Arizona license plates on Interstate 5 northbound for failure to maintain a lane of travel, said OSP Sergeant Dale Young. The driver was identified as La Vongpanya, 32, of Santa Barbara, Calif.

Subsequent investigation led to the discovery of the marijuana, hidden in duffel bags in the car’s trunk. An OSP drug detection canine assisted in finding the illegal drug, estimated to be worth about $100,000.

Vongpanya was arrested and lodged at the Marion County Jail on charges of unlawful possession, manufacture and distribution of a controlled substance (marijuana). Bail is set at $80,000.

OSP Drug Enforcement Section detectives are continuing the investigation.

Nice to know that the police is working hard to find criminals, especially at night. Its good that police are stoping police from other states cause we dont know why they are driving at night.
