Chamber hires tourism assistant

WOODBURN — Kristin Graybeal has been hired as the tourism assistant for Woodburn Area Tourism (WAT), Woodburn Area Chamber of Commerce Vice President of Tourism Darcy Ruef announced last week.
Graybeal earned her bachelor’s degree in business management from Portland State University in 2008, and has over a decade’s experience in the hospitality industry. She lives in Silverton and works at the Glockenspiel Restaurant, and is fluent in Spanish.
“There were a number of great applicants for this position,” said Ruef. “The committee unanimously felt that Kristin was the best candidate to take WAT to the next level.”
WAT Tourism Coordinator Rhonda Judson has been filling dual roles since taking on the 20 hour per week position running the chamber office.
“I’ve been performing my W
AT duties evenings and weekends,” said Judson, “and I’m looking forward to Kristin’s help in soliciting new WAT members as well as working on our brochures, event planning and promoting our great area.”
Graybeal will begin work Jan. 5. Her first priorities will be to network with current WAT members, work with vendors to coordinate the production of the Visitor Guide, Tulip Festival insert, the reprinting of the Community Map and other projects on WAT’s agenda.
“I’m very excited to begin this new position,” said Graybeal. “I’m young with fresh ideas like how to connect WAT to social networking sites, but have extensive experience in the local tourism industry. I’m looking forward to using my organizational and communication skills in my favorite task — meeting people.”
Woodburn Area Tourism is a separate part of the Woodburn Area Chamber of Commerce, whose distinct mission is to market to the 5 million annual visitors to the area. It is primarily funded by the city of Woodburn Transient Occupancy Tax collected from guests at local motels.
