DAYTON - Gervais and St. Paul were among seven teams that competed at Dayton High School on Wednesday.

As a team, the Buckaroos excelled, placing second for the girls and fifth for the boys.

While Gervais had success on an individual basis, team scores for the Cougars trailed the competition, as they placed fifth for the girls and seventh for the boys.

Michelle Wilson and Katlyn McKillip won individual events for the St. Paul girls, while the 4x100-meter relay team of Taylor Brentano, Britney Petrjanos, Hayden Smith, and Dani Riggleman also placed first, with a time of 57.08 seconds.

Wilson won the discus (104 feet, 10 inches) and placed fourth in the shot put (31-5).

McKillip won the high jump (4-6) and placed fourth in the triple jump (28-2.5).

For Gervais, Mary Dewar led the way, winning the shot put (35-9) and placing second in the discus (102-3).

Dewar, known more for her strength, than her speed, also placed eighth in the 100 (14.67).

Other top finishers for St. Paul included Julie Drescher, who took second in the 100 (13.31) and pole vault (8-3), and Riggleman, who placed third in the 300 low hurdles (59.35) and fourth in the 100 high hurdles (22.89).

Gervais' Antonida DosReis excelled in the 100 high hurdles, placing second (20.48). Other top finishers for Gervais included Katy Isiordia, who won the 3,000 (13:07.22), and Adriana Gonzalez, who took fifth in the javelin (94-2).

On the boys side, neither St. Paul or Gervais had any event winners. The Bucks had four runner-ups, while Zack Burton was the lone runner-up for the Cougars.

Burton placed second in the long jump (19-9), despite being limited by shin splints.

Spier Lewis led the Bucks, taking second place in the 300 intermediate hurdles (43.90) and fourth place in the 110 high hurdles (17.76). Sophomores Ryan Pierson and David Ferguson also had top-10 finishes in multiple events. Pierson placed second in the 200 (23.27) and 10th in the long jump (18-0), while Ferguson took third in the discus (138-4), seventh in the javelin (130-9) and eighth in the shot put (36-1).

Other top finishers for the Bucks included Moises Rivera who took second in the pole vault (8-6), Matt Brown, who took second in the high jump (5-6) and ninth in the triple jump (34-7), Austin Smith, who placed fourth in the shot put (38-10.5) and Jeff Annen, who was sixth in the discus (115-10).
