WOODBURN - The Woodburn boys tennis team beat Lebanon 7-1 on Wednesday and Dallas 6-2 on Thursday, in what coach Tom Lonergan called the team's best match of the season.

On Tuesday, the team fell 5-3 against West Albany, the top team in the league, but showed some promise, by winning the top three doubles matches. The first doubles team of Jose Bravo and Fernando Gonzalez (pictured, right) won 2-6, 6-3, 7-5; Jose Hernandez and Luis Hernandez won 6-3, 7-5, at second doubles; Omar Cazares and Girardo Camacho won 6-4, 3-6, 6-1, at third doubles.

The Bulldogs rebounded nicely to grab convincing wins against Lebanon and Dallas.

"Dallas is not a bad team," said Lonergan. "They've improved, but I really liked the way our guys responded."

Again, the top three doubles teams won matches, as well as David Wimmer, Freddy Khamrogez, and Eduardo Martinez at singles.

Woodburn essentially dominated Lebanon, in a match that was continued from earlier in the season, due to to rain. Matt Leveton and Jacob Vela won their first match of the season as the fourth doubles team.

On the girls side, Woodburn lost 7-1 to West Albany, the top team in the league, and 5-3 to Dallas, but Lonergan continues to be impressed with the improvement they've shown.

Against Dallas, Tonya Quinones and Abie Cia won at second doubles, and Lily Abildayev and Natalya Olifranco won at singles.

Lonergan said Olifranco is one of the team's most improved players, while Abildayev (pictured, right) has now won all three matches in singles. She won the Bulldogs' lone match against West Albany, 6-3, 6-1.

The teams will play on Wednesday against South Albany. The boys are home, girls away.
