Lincoln Elementary kindergarten students (from left to right) Bianca Islas, Monica Cook, Kyle Anderson and Marina Foster enjoy the “UP!” presentation in their school gym on April 21. The Motivational Media Assemblies show utilized three two-story projector screens and an array of video clips and music to promote healthy living, being respectful and setting goals for life.

Three two-story projector screens greeted Lincoln Elementary students as they filed in to their gym for an assembly on April 21. Once the gym floor was covered with seated grade-school students, the lights went out and the wide-screen, IMAX-like "UP!" presentation burst to life.

Using popular music and video clips from movies including Pirates of the Caribbean, Mission Impossible, Over the Hedge and more, "UP!" addresses critical issues of childhood obesity, bullying and character education. "UP!" is the creation of Motivational Media Assemblies and is proven to be an effective tool for improving student behavior across the country. The program has toured through over 1000 U.S. cities, and has helped lower teen driving safety deaths by 18 percent in the past 18 months.

At Lincoln, students heard messages about being physically active, having good attitudes, building dreams, eating right, being respectful, and more.

Fighting off the initial urge to make shadow puppets in the glaring projector lights, students were quickly captivated by the vibrant clips of great football plays, highflying skateboarders, child heroes and even a dog who hops on two legs.

This program was sponsored by Nestle Waters and Woodburn School District Food Service.
