4-30 Editorial - Chemeketa bond a good idea

Chemeketa Community College has put a $92 million bond to voters to replace aging temporary buildings and new technology facilities, as well as providing funds to train firefighters, paramedics and nursing students. The bonds, if approved, will be payable from taxes on property or property ownership.

This is a good bond. Voters should pass this. Chemeketa is important to the Woodburn community, as evidenced by the plethora of classes and the beautiful new building on Lincoln Street.

While this bond doesn't put money into facilities located here in Woodburn, it does have a direct impact on this area. The facilities that will be built will train future firefighters and medics that will work in Woodburn. They will provide the interns and students for Woodburn.

The facilities will offer training to individuals in nursing, dental science, pharmacy, firefighters, law enforcement, paramedics and emergency services personnel. Updating their technology facilities will help train students in electronics, engineering, computer science, manufacturing, drafting, welding and HVAC technicians.

Many of those benefiting from this bond will come from Mid-Willamette high schools.

This bond is not just about money, however. It's about making our communities better and safer and the Woodburn Independent is happy to endorse Ballot Measure No. 24-245.

Go to top.
