| You want an example of a small town that does its festival the right way? Look no further than the Hubbard Hop Festival this Saturday |
|---|
When you seek an example of a small town doing it right, and doing it well, the good folks of Hubbard seem to have found the magic formula. This Saturday the Hubbard Hop Festival begins a one day run that should be the blueprint for all small town celebrations. Organized by the Hubbard Fire Department and run by volunteers, the Hop Festival combines the energy of a those organizing it with the calming influence of veteran leadership. In short, even when new people are put in leadership positions, the festival has progressed to the point that the new people aren't overwhelmed, but put in a position to succeed. The Hop Festival has the good sense to remain a one day activity, so all the organizer's energy are channeled into doing it right one day out of the year. While the work goes on year-round, the single day format allows them to bring a tremendous amount of focus to bear -- and the results are a day full of activity in the heart of Hubbard. The true test of this event's longevity is that it serves as a focal point for friends and family to meet each year. A walk through the park often leaves old friends clasping hands and asking "How have you been?" If you've lived in this area for any length in time, the Hop Festival is probably no stranger to you. If you haven't gone, you've certainly heard of it. But, in case you haven't noticed, our little area is the scene of plenty of home buying, with new people filtering into the area in record numbers. For those of you who are new to this part of Oregon, or those of you who simply haven't visited the Hop Festival, we encourage you to take part in a small town tradition that continues to give far more than it takes. The Hubbard Hop Festival is a unique event that points to the virtues of the Hubbard Fire Department and the volunteers who run the festival. It is a one-of-a-kind festival that you simply have to take in. The parade starts at 10 a.m. Saturday, and the festivities kick in shortly after.
