Two juveniles caught in home burglary attempt

WOODBURN - Friday morning, close to 9 a.m., officers from the Woodburn Police Department responded to a report of a burglary, in progress, in the 600 block of Wilson Street.

The complainant reported at least one of the juveniles had climbed the fence, entering the backyard, but left prior to police arrival. Officers learned that an actual burglary had not occurred. Investigation showed that one of the suspects had knocked at the front door and when there was no answer, went to the backyard. It is not known why the suspect did not make entry into the house.

The two suspects, one a 16-year-old Hispanic male, the other a 17-year-old Hispanic male, were located, by Woodburn Police officers, several blocks away. After interviewing the suspects, both suspects were taken into custody for the attempted burglary. Additional investigation showed that another residence, on Brown Street, was also a target of an attempted burglary, but the homeowner had answered the door at that residence.

The Woodburn Police Department is asking that anyone with information regarding this incident, to contact the police department at 503-982-2345.

Residents are warned that a common ploy, in committing burglaries, is done in the same way by two suspects. The suspect(s) will knock on the front door, to see if anyone is home, and then when there is no answer; go to the back or side of the house in attempt to gain entry. Residents are encouraged to report suspicious activity.

The Woodburn Police Department would like to thank residents of Woodburn for reporting suspicious activity. In many instances, police investigations are able to come to a successful conclusion by a witness calling something in.
