St. Paul SB seeks more information on bond
By John Gervais

After a year of public meetings, discussions with community groups and a recent phone survey, the St. Paul School Board has approved the retention of bond consultant Preston, Gates and Ellis.
In the board's vote, staff was authorized to seek a proposal that would outline the steps necessary should the board decide to go to the voters with a bond in the November general election to fund school facility improvements.
"The board has not made a decision on whether to go to the voters for a school construction bond or. if it was authorized, how large the bond would be," said Nick Schneider, chairperson of the school board.
Under Oregon election law, the last day for the school district to give notice of filing for a bond election is Sept. 7. Under those circumstances, the school board would have to make a decision in its August regular meeting or in a special meeting prior to the final date.
In an effort further identify the concerns of district residents about the buildings and inform them of conditions at both the high school and elementary school, the district had Carrie Palmore make personal phone contact with a broad section of residents.
Following the results of the phone poll, the district sent out an informational piece to explain the results of the survey, provide updated information on the condition of the facilities and answers to the most frequent questions the district has received about the buildings.
The district is planning to send out an additional informational piece to explain, if voters approved a bond, how the money would be spent.
In other action:
n The board approved the hiring of Bryce Court as head basketball coach. Court is currently a history teacher at St. Paul High School.
