Posted July 1, 2009

Marion County Sheriff's deputies arrested a suspect Tuesday afternoon in connection with the stabbing of a Woodburn auctioneer that morning.

Jeremiah D. Thomasson, 22, of Coos Bay, will be charged with attempted murder, first-degree assault and unlawful use of a weapon.

An auctioneer was stabbed in the jugular at Woodburn Auction Tuesday afternoon and flown by LifeFlight to a Portland-area hospital with non life-threatening injuries. MCSO responded to the scene at 11:50 a.m., after the suspect fled southbound.

Woodburn, Gervais, Mt. Angel, Salem and Silverton police, the Oregon State Police and MCSO deputies set up a perimeter around the auction yard, down to Belle Passi and in the Hermanson Park areas, and began searching for a white male suspect with the help of Woodburn and Marion County K-9 units.

Approximately three hours after the assault, deputies located the suspect in a trailer park about a mile from the scene. The suspect was taken into custody.

The victim has requested that he not be identified and that his location and medical condition not be released, an MCSO press release said.

MCSO detectives continue to investigate and additional charges could be filed.
