Families from all around the Mid-Willamette Valley filled the Woodburn Plaza Sunday afternoon to celebrate Dia del Niño, or Day of the Child, and by the end of the activities and dancing Sunday night, it is estimated that more than 5,000 participated in the day-long festivities.

"We had great participation from the community and you see all the children everywhere," said Javier Perfecto, community relations manager for the City of Woodburn, one of the sponsors of the function.

Charlie the Clown and his helpers provided a wide variety of children's activities on the stage and then awarded children with prizes for their participation, followed by a drawing for a children's model Yamaha four-wheeler.

Another event sponsor, LaPantera radio, provided music throughout the day. More than 20 vendors also sold anything from popsicles and juice, to tacos and other foods as the weather was a positive participant with moderately warm weather.

The Plaza was open to all Sunday with great weather, soft music, good food and thousands of smiling faces having a great time.
