Teens can make masks for display

Are you a creative teen? Woodburn Public Library is looking for teens to make masks for display in the Young Adult area. The group will meet 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. July 20 in the library, Portland artist Ping Khaw will assist teens in creating individualized masks, which will hang in the Young Adult area until fall then be returned to their creators.
With a bachelor of fine arts in painting from Pacific Northwest College of Art and a business accounting diploma from Perkim Goon Institute in Malaysia, Ping Khaw has taught children's art classes since 1984. Ping has been involved in various mural projects, art activities and workshop with at-risk and multinational youths in Malaysia as well as in Portland. For the last 12 years, she has worked for MediaRites productions, City of Portland, Parks and Recreation, the Boys and Girls Club, Portland Impact, American Pacific Asian Consortium on Substance Abuse, Chinese Language School, Asian Family Center and schools all around Woodburn, Portland, Beaverton, Troutdale and Hillsboro area. Ping serves as a board member for MediaRites production, Associated Artists of Portland and Asian American Business Alliance.
Ping has been a NAP artist for Regional Arts & Culture Council for the last 10 years. She believes using forms of art could help express and transform negative energy to positive energy and bridging the gap between people especially the ethnic groups in the community.
