Brandon Singleterry opened Anytime Fitness April 21. The gym is located in the Woodburn Crossing Shopping Center and is open 24 hours a day, every day throughout the year.

Brandon Singleterry first came up with the idea of starting his own business, while he was stationed in Afghanistan with the Oregon Army National Guard.

Singleterry, who had spent 16 years of his life in various branches of the military, settled in Woodburn with his wife, because they liked Woodburn's proximity as a mid-point between Salem and Portland. He opened Anytime Fitness in the Woodburn Crossings shopping center, next to Billy-O Pub, on April 21.

"I've always liked fitness," he said. "I just really wanted to stay in shape and do a job that I liked to do, which is fitness stuff. I was thinking either that, or a bar ... I ended up going with this one, because it's less hassle - with a bar you have all kinds of permits, and I just didn't want to have to deal with that."

Anytime Fitness is a franchise business, and members receive a key that is good at any of the 1,400 locations worldwide, which are open 24 hours per day, seven days a week and 365 days a year.

From now until May 31, Singleterry is offering introductory membership fees of $29 per month and a $29 processing fee. For families, rates drop with each additional membership.

Singleterry, who is originally from Harrisburg, put a lot of time and money into remodeling the interior of the building, including new paint, flooring, a security system, and a full assortment of Nautilus workout machines. With changes on the horizon for Woodburn Crossings, Singleterry already has an agreement in place with the building's owners to keep Anytime Fitness in the complex, when the building gets torn down in the next couple years.

"They're going to build (the new location) to suit," he said. "They're going to build it how I want it, because even if I leave, they still want a gym in here. So it's going to be built to be a gym, and that's going to help me out a lot."

Anytime Fitness will be having a grand opening celebration on May 10, and Singleterry will be holding a raffle to give away a Bowflex machine, a set of Bowflex SelectTech dumbbells and some Nautilus gear, and other promotional items.

Anybody who has signed up for a membership by the time of the grand opening will be eligible for the raffles.

Anytime Fitness is located at 2247 Country Club Rd., and for more information please call 503-984-0423.
