Sharon Stormo admits that she and her husband had been "terrible garage sale nuts," for years.

The couple, who had grown up in Canby, was always picking up things, here and there, with the idea that one day, they would open their own antique store, and over the years, the couple had amassed quite a collection.

Finally, in March of 2007, they had run out of space, and felt the timing was right to open Sharon's Country Corner in Donald.

"The goal is to be something beneficial to the community," she said, pointing out that she hosts a charity quilting event, once a week, and plans to provide children's books for rental in the future, like a neighborhood library.

Shoppers can find a vast variety of unique antiques and collectibles at Sharon's Country Corner - everything from old tools, cast iron, glassware, Watkins products, fabric and sewing patterns, beeswax candles, furniture, vintage baby clothing and children's toys. She also rents out space to vendors, and uses the profits from selling crafts to buy batting for charity quilts.

"Our prices are lower than a lot places," she said, "because we're off the beaten path."

She said generally nothing in the store is over $50, except for the furniture.

Stormo recently reconnected with longtime friend, Sandra Booze, who sub-leased part of the building, to open Donald Family Cuts.

Donald Family Cuts opened in April, and although Booze claims she doesn't have an interesting story, she is interestingly one of the first women in the state to be certified through the Salem Barber School, and she brings 30 years of experience cutting hair to the local community.

She grew up in Amity, and has owned barber shops in Medford and Salem in the past.

"I look forward to providing a service for the local people," said Booze.

Donald Family Cuts just does haircuts, with prices ranging from $10-15.

Both Sharon's Country Corner and Donald Family Cuts are open Tuesday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday.

They are located in the old City Hall building, at 10790 Main St. NE, in Donald.

It is right next to the Donald Café.

Sharon's Country Corner can be contacted at 503-678-2270. Donald Family Cuts can be contacted at 503-678-2270.
