Library hosts a baby storytime in July

Infants from birth to 12 months and their parents or caregivers are invited to attend a Baby Storytime at 2 p.m. Saturdays in July.
The storytime will include short age-appropriate stories, gentle bounces, songs, nursery rhymes and movement activities. The storytime will last about 30 minutes. This is a fun activity for new families and a way to instill a life-long reading habit.
Infant storytimes have become increasingly popular, especially in light of recent research on brain development. The research shows that infants are born ready to learn and that exposure from birth to many kinds of language activities, such as talking, singing, rhyming, and reading, affects how the brain will develop.
Children who are read to from an early age tend to develop better language abilities and more interest in, and enjoyment of reading. Both factors are important predictors of later success in school.
Baby Storytime, which will continue throughout the month of July, is part of the Library's Summer Reading Program Paws, Claws, Scales and Tales. For more information about this event or the Summer Reading Program, please contact the Youth Services Department at the Library: 503-982-5260.
