WSD invites community to strategic planning process

Woodburn School District is opening up its strategic planning process to more students, parents, community members and staff this year. Instead of hosting just one core planning team meeting with 30 designated participants, the district is hosting a pair of input meetings at each of its seven schools between Jan. 6 and Feb. 3.
"We want to provide more opportunities for our stakeholders to share their thinking about the direction the school district is heading," said WSD Communications Specialist Jeanine Hohn.
In the past WSD has hosted a single, annual core planning session, to review strategic plan implementation and set recommended goals for the following school year. The district, which has been using the planning model for seven-and-a-half years now, has also been through one major overhaul of its long range goals.
"We've received feedback over the years that more people want to be involved in setting goals for the school district," Hohn said. "So this year, we are inviting parents, students, community members and staff to hear about the goals of our current plan, and let us know what their questions, concerns and ideas are."
"Input from all of these meetings will be synthesized into a report for the core planning team to review at it's review and update session in February. Essentially, we've added a step in the process so more voices are heard, prior to the core planning team making any recommendations."
While staff meetings will be announced internally, the district is inviting community members and parents to attend one of the following public sessions:
Lincoln Elementary School -- 6:30 p.m. Jan. 3
Woodburn High School -- 5:30 p.m. Jan. 11
Valor Middle School -- 6 p.m. Jan. 13
Heritage Elementary School -- 6:30 p.m. Jan. 13
District Parent Advisory Committee at French Prairie Middle School -- 7 p.m. Jan. 24
Key Communicators at Heritage Elementary School -- 6:30 p.m. Jan. 25
Key Communicators at Heritage Elementary School -- 7 a.m. Jan. 26
French Prairie Middle School -- 6 p.m. Jan. 27
Washington Elementary School -- 6:30 p.m. Feb. 1

Translation assistance, childcare and refreshments will be provided at all meetings. For more information, to RSVP or to request a copy of the Woodburn School District strategic plan, please call Hohn at 503-981-2810.
