There will be a lot of hands in the air the next couple of weeks as mayors and city councilors from Aurora, Donald, Gervais, Hubbard and St. Paul are sworn in as the result of the November general election. Added to that is the first elected term of Marion County Commissioner Sam Brentano. Brentano, appointed to the commission when Mike Ryan left, was elected to his first full four-year term on the county commission in the November general election. He is scheduled to be sworn in at 11 a.m. Jan. 3 in the Senator Hearing Room of Marion County's Courthouse Square. Joining Brentano in the ceremony will be newly elected Marion County Clerk Bill Burgess. The public is invited to attend the ceremony. City of Aurora Bill Carr will take the oath of office for his first two-year term as mayor and veteran Council President Charles Donald and Tom Ramsey will be sworn in for new four-year terms at the council's Jan. 11 meeting City of Donald Marcil Spotanski will be sworn in to a two-year term as Donald's new mayor. Taking the oath of office for four-year terms on the city council will be Tami Crisman, Larry Doble, and Dennis Miller. This will also take place at 6:45 p.m. Jan. 11. City of Gervais Joe Simmons will take the oath of office Jan. 15 as the new mayor of Gervais, replacing the retiring two-term Mayor Sandra Foote. City councilors Doug Frasco, Michael Gregory and Tony Miller will also be sworn in to new four-year terms. City of Hubbard Hubbard businessman Tom McCain will take the oath office for the two-year term as mayor of Hubbard on Jan. 11, succeeding retiring two-term mayor Don Thwing. Taking office for four-year terms on the Hubbard City Council will be Chip Enbody and Matt Kennedy. City of St. Paul Mayor Kathy Connor will be sworn in to a second two-year term in St. Paul and will be joined by Adele Schaffeld-Adams and Jay Phillips for four-year terms on the St. Paul City Council at January's first meeting. City of Woodburn Mayor Kathy Figley has been sworn in to a second two-year term as mayor and incumbent councilors Richard Bjelland, Walter Nichols and re-elected Council President Elida Sifuentez have also taken the oath of office for new four-year terms.
