Dressed in oil-soaked fatigues, Air Force crew chief Bill Hamilton (above) works on a P-51 Mustang at an airstrip in Pohang, South Korea, in 1950, soon after North Korea invaded. When the latest jets at that time proved inefficient for attacking troops on the ground, the military turned back to the famous World War II-era Mustangs to get the job done.
