Firehouse Cook-off

Friday, Aug 17, 2012

Doug Burkhardt

Saturday’s Woodburn Firehouse Cook-off, at the Wooden Shoe Tulip Farm property on Meridian Road, was a big hit with about 500 folks who turned out to enjoy chicken, pork and beef dishes barbecued by 13 competing teams. As part of a campaign to raise funds for Woodburn’s FFA and Rotary organizations, the contestants tried to outdo each other and entice those attending the cook-off with free samples and even some special sauces. This year’s grand champion turned out to be the “Loco Ono” team. One of the Loco Ono chefs hands out some freshly-grilled meat during the height of the grilling action. The Woodburn Firehouse Cook-off, blessed with nearly perfect weather as well as a wonderful venue for the festivities, raised nearly $10,000 this year.
