MacLaren gives back

Tuesday, Mar 27, 2012

Lindsay Keefer

Inmate Andrew Tignor (left) plants one of 20 apple trees donated to MacLaren Youth Correctional Facility on March 20, along with Stephen Zielinski of E.Z. Orchards in Salem. The new partnership with Marion-Polk Food Share, which donated the trees, also includes Habitat for Humanity, with volunteers also helping to construct an on-site greenhouse last week. The partnership is a win-win: Inmates benefit from learning hands-on horticulture skills and a portion of the produce they cultivate is donated to the local food bank.
