ALBANY — The North Marion wrestling team began 2013 by winning three of its five duals Jan. 5 at the West Albany Invitational.
The Huskies dominated Willamette 54-9, clobbered Stayton 57-18 and defeated Central Linn 51-30, losing to Class 6A powers Sprague and Thurston.

STAYTON — For a half it appeared the Kennedy boys basketball team was going to battle Regis to the wire.
The Trojans hung tough, trailing 10-7 after the first quarter and took the lead in the second quarter on a 3-pointer from Kasey Perez and another jumper from Doug Pomeroy, 18-15 with 3:15 left in the half.

GERVAIS — The Gervais Lady Cats ran into a buzzsaw in basketball action on Jan. 3, falling to the Vernonia Loggers by a final score of 51-43.
The game was played at Gervais High School, and despite playing on their home court, the Lady Cats (8-3) struggled with the Loggers (5-3) from the outset.

STAYTON — Kennedy ran into a buzzsaw Friday at Regis High School as three-time defending state champion Rams cruised to a 62-23 victory.
Regis’ full-court press coupled with Beth Lorenz’s 26 points proved too much for the young Kennedy squad to overcome.
