The Woodburn boys soccer team defeated Sandy on Tuesday and is now setting its sights on Saturday's quarterfinal game.

That was certainly true for St. Paul in 2012, which swooned over the final weeks of the regular season but collected itself for a deep playoff run — culminating with a third-place showing at the 1A state tournament Friday and Saturday at Ridgeview High School in Redmond.

HILLSBORO — The Woodburn boys soccer team capped another brilliant season with a third straight state championship on Saturday at Hillsboro Stadium. The Bulldogs defeated Mountain View, 2-1, on first-half goals by Michael Hobson and Luis Rangel, and then held off a late surge from the Cougars to hold on to the victory.

WOODBURN — Woodburn Galindo’s Taekwondo placed first out of 40 schools at the Grand Master Legacy Cup tournament Nov. 3.
The event, which was at Mount Hood Community College, was attended by 18 Woodburn students who earned 38 medals, said coach Cenobio Galindo.
