Woodburn Hi-Liners compete at state

PORTLAND — The Woodburn High School’s dance and drill team, the Hi-Liners, performed a “Radioactive” theme at the 2013 OSAA Dance & Drill State Championship at Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Portland this past weekend.

A couple formerly from Woodburn has briefly returned to the area to help bring awareness to the literary needs of children in the Dominican Republic. Rebecca and Josh Rouscalp, former teachers in the Woodburn School District, moved to the Dominican Republic in July 2011 with their two young children.


Nellie Muir: ‘Let there be love’

Nellie Muir Elementary School had its second artist in residence in a year, this time in the form of a musician. Folk singer and songwriter Jenna Lindbo came to the school for the first two weeks in March, with her visit culminating in the second- and third-grade choral concert last Thursday.

Sacred Heart Catholic School in Gervais is gearing up for its 23rd annual Spring Fling Auction and Dinner on April 20. Doors open at 4:30 p.m. with the silent auction, followed by dinner and the oral auction.


Gervais School Board decides to not pursue bond

After months of discussion, the Gervais School Board has decided not to go out for a bond in the May 21 election. The purpose of the bond was to help with costs to consolidate the entire school district onto one campus.


New Woodburn superintendent to be hired by May 16

The Woodburn School Board has decided to move forward with an internal superintendent search, with the goal of having the position hired by May 16. The official decision and adoption of the search timeline by the board came the same day as Superintendent David Bautista’s farewell reception, held in the Woodburn High School small commons.
