Holocaust survivor Alter Wiener, 87, shares reflections from his life and his book, “64735: From a Name to a Number - A Holocaust Survivor’s Autobiography” last week at the United Methodist Church in Woodburn. Wiener is one of about 100 survivors of the Holocaust in Oregon and feels a “moral obligation” to tell his story.
Alter Wiener survived 35 months in Nazi forced labor and concentration camps through a combination of luck and prayer. With an estimated 6 million Jewish people killed during the Holocaust, including 123 members of his own extended family, Wiener has lived with nightmares ever since.
